Fact or Fiction

Aims:

  • to build rapport or strengthen group bonding by sharing information about each other in a fun way.

Level:

  • elementary and above

Activity:

  • Write your 4 ‘facts’ on the board, ready to model the exercise. Tell students your first statement about yourself, encourage them to ask plenty of questions. Repeat the process for the remaining statements.

  • Then ask students to guess which ones are real facts and which ones are fiction. After all students have guessed reveal the correct answers.

  • Ask students (Sts) to write down their statements. You may want to tell them they will need to think about their statements at the beginning. Peer check the grammar of the statements. Pick one student to begin and repeat the process.

Variations:

  • Change the number of statements and the number that can be fiction.

More teaching:

  • Go through the grammar of your own statements. Why “I’ve ran a marathon” is in the present perfect and “I lived in Israel” past simple etc.
